The Hollow Core

Genesis 1 & 2, aaahhhhh  Those were the days!  Perfection and peace…all the food you can eat….all the animals you can name…all the good clean fun you can handle.  Then the ugly 3rd Chapter in Genesis comes into play….  and there goes perfection….

And there humanity sits…. fallen, broken, and sinful.  What used to be perfect harmony and peace that came from intimacy with God, the Father and Creator…now is Hollow….

Since that time, there has been a Hollow Core looming in the souls of every Human.  An emptiness, un-satisfaction, incompleteness, thirst, hunger….a HOLLOW CORE….

King Solomon tried to fill this Hollow Core with everything He could imagine bringing Him pleasure…  In Ecclesiastes 2 Solomon says…

“Call me the QUESTER.  I’ve been King over isreal in Jerusalem, I looked most carefully into everything, searched out all that is done on this earth.  I said to myself, ‘let’s go for it – experiment with pleasure, have a Good time…”

Solomon did EVERYTHING from conquer Kingdoms, own land, be wealthier than anyone alive, build a PHAT crib, have all the women he wanted… and in the end…this is what He said…

“Then I took a good look at everything I’d done, looked at all the sweat and hard work.  But when I looked, I saw nothing but SMOKE.  Smoke and spitting into the wind.  There was nothing to any of it.  Nothing.  Meaningless.  Worthless.  Vanity….”

Solomon had it all and did it all to try to fulfill himself and the Hollow Core inside Him.  And Got nowhere!

THANK YOU FOR THE CROSS!

So, I’m a firm believer that God is the ANSWER and the SOLUTION for this problem.

The reason why we say that Genesis 1 & 2 were perfection is because there was not ANYTHING coming between Humanity and God’s love, plans, and purposes!  It was beauty in it’s truest form!

God understands that this is the only way this Hollow Core will EVER be filled again…if we have relationship with the Living God once again.  That is where Christ and the Cross comes in.

THIRSTY?

Jesus stopped at the Well, because He was tired and thirsty from a long day of minister and a long road ahead of Him.  He stops and asks a woman at a well to fetch Him some water.  The lady, baffled that a Jewish man is asking for water from her, tries to politely say no.  Jesus, shocked the woman even more when He started having a conversation with her.  Jesus tells her…..  “Anyone who drinks of this water will thirst again;  but whoever drinks of the water that I will give them shall never thirst again; but the water that I will give him will become in him a WELL of LIVING WATER springing up to Eternal Life!”

You see, the woman had been with 4 husbands and she was currently living with another one who she was not married to.  She was trying to fill this emptiness inside with Men and relationships…and it all left her thirsty….

Jesus offered her a permanent and eternal quench.  You and I and the whole world will FOREVER be thirsty and hollow if we do not know and accept Christ!

HUNGRY?

Even if you are a believer in Jesus Christ, there might be times where you feel empty or dry or broken.  The mundane and monotony of life sometimes leaves you HUNGRY for more….   Sometimes you are reminded of this Hunger at a camp or at a church service or when you hear other stories of people doing amazing thing for God and His Kingdom.  Sometimes you can just feel it in your bones that you were destined for something greater.  Sometimes, you lay awake at night saying…. “IS THIS IT?”

Hunger is a good thing…it drives us to dive in further and further into the Word of God and our relationship with Christ.  Later on in John Chapter 4 (same chapter that the story above came from)…The Disciples are all sitting around eating while Jesus was busy preaching the gospel and teaching.  When they saw Jesus, they called out to Him “RABBI, EAT!”  – But Jesus replied, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.”  So the disciples were saying to one another, ‘Noone has brought Him anything to eat?’  – Jesus said to them, “My FOOD is to Do the will of Him who sent me and to Accomplish His work…”  (John 4:31-34).

Wow…  Jesus was sustained purely by DOING the will of God and Accomplishing His work…

So, do you feel like there is something more or something that your missing?  Do you feel empty?  Do you feel Hungry for more? Try this on for size.  Get to know God and His Word, See what He has called all of us as Christians to do, and Go and Do the will of God and accomplish His work…..let that be the thing that Satisfies you!
